SPR at the London Marathon 2025
Members of SPR showed their colours as they ran the London Marathon today, supported by the club along with friends and family.
Bananas, Vaseline and club shirt were at the ready for James, as all the training paid off for a successful finish, having won the draw for the club place in the Sherfield Park Runners annual ballot.
And what a special year to run the London Marathon as it celebrated 45 years. Congratulations to all the deserving participants of this great landmark event; a great personal achievement, especially running on this warm and sunny day.
SPR in the news
Spring is a great time to take up running with just the right temperature, beautiful scenery, better weather conditions and longer days. In our recent news articles in the local community magazine, we shared club updates and celebrated personal achievements, including feedback from our couch to 5k graduates. The couch to 5k course is led by our trained club leaders and is supported by all members of the club. The graduation is held at Basingstoke Parkrun and a medal presentation.
Besides our regular structured and relaxed weekly training sessions, we celebrated personal stories and updates about our group runs. These events included food bank runs, charity runs, parkrun and our social get togethers. The club supports all our members personal journeys, whether that is physical fitness or mental wellbeing, the support of fellow runners has made a significant difference, turning the solitary act of running into a shared and enjoyable social experience.
SPR on Tour
At the end of March, Sherfield Park Runners enjoyed a weekend away to the New Forest. We headed to Sandy Balls Holiday Village in Fordingbridge for a weekend of running and socialising.
On Friday night, we enjoyed a group meal at the local pub with some great local food and a few drinks together. As runners, life is about balance, so it was great to meet up as a group to get to know each other aside from our passion for running. The next day we explored the New Forest with a trail run and pony spotting, whilst others enjoyed hikes to Hindhead, discovering local cafes and making the most of the hot tubs in our lodges.
We regrouped for dinner again that evening ahead of race day on Sunday, when we took part in the Tri Counties Up On The Down races of varying distances from 5k to a half marathon. The route was hilly and muddy, but it offered incredible views across the New Forest and was enjoyed by all abilities of runner. Two of our club members even won trophies! At Sherfield Park Runners, we celebrate everyone's achievements equally, whether its your first race or your personal best, because as out motto pledges, no one runs alone.
